Spouse visas (also known as spouse KITAS) are available to foreign nationals who are married to Indonesian citizens. This KITAS, which is sponsored by your spouse, is valid for one year and may be renewed for an additional five years. They will be able to change their spouse’s KITAS or spouse visa in Indonesia into a permanent stay permit (KITAP) after two years of continuous residency in Indonesia.
Once they have obtained an Indonesian spouse visa, foreigners are eligible for a number of perks, including the following:
- Qualified to apply for a driver’s license in Indonesia.
- Permitted to apply for loans in Indonesia, open a credit card, and bank account.
Are able to co-own Indonesian properties with their spouse. - Qualified to obtain a five-year Indonesian identity card (when the spouse KITAS is changed to a spouse KITAP).
- Qualified to obtain Indonesian citizenship.
Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP)
Indonesia has drawn many visitors looking to relocate there for an extended period of time because of its natural beauty and hospitable population. If so, KITAP Indonesia will be very helpful in easing the transition to your new life in the nation. For example, a KITAP permits its holders to enter Indonesia several times for up to two years and to stay for a maximum of five years. However, KITAP becomes invalid for non-Indonesians if they do not enter the country within a year.
Those who own a KITAP can either renew it for another five years or convert it into an unlimited KITAP once the initial term ends. Foreigners no longer need to report to the Indonesian immigration office annually, but just once every five years after converting to an unlimited KITAP.
What qualifications does KITAP Indonesia require?
Only foreign nationals with a valid KITAS (limited stay permission) are granted a KITAP by the Indonesian government, which also has stringent KITAP standards. The following individuals can apply for KITAP Indonesia:
- Foreigners who have been married to an Indonesian national for at least two years (spouse-sponsored KITAS holders).
- Foreign commissioners, directors, or investors in PT PMAs or Limited Liability Companies (current holders of an Indonesian investment visa for three years running).
- Foreigners with Indonesian retirement visas who intend to retire there.
- Those seeking to recover their citizenship as Indonesians.
