A family reunion visa or dependent visa in Indonesia authorizes non-citizens to bring their family members with them during their period of residence in the country. KITAS or work permit holders are specifically permitted to bring their spouse and children under the age of 18 with them on a dependent visa.

The company that sponsored the foreigner’s work permit or KITAS is actually the same business that sponsors the dependent visa. It is important to remember, though, that foreigners with Indonesian dependent visas cannot work for Indonesian companies or make money from them.

Visitors from outside of Indonesia must first get a limited stay visa (VITAS) in order to enter the country before they can apply for an Indonesian dependent visa. When they get to Indonesia, their VISAs will automatically change to family or dependant visas.
